Warmer weather is here—and it’s only getting hotter! As we head to the backyard, neighborhood pools, or beach days, sun and water safety are essential.

At Moms on Call, we’re all about keeping little ones safe and having fun. Let’s dive into our expert-recommended sun and water safety tips to help your family stay cool and protected this summer.

1. Supervision Is Key: Sun and Water Safety Starts with You

Adult supervision is the most important line of defense—whether your child is in the water or simply playing nearby. No floating device or swim skill can replace your eyes and presence. Always stay within arm’s reach of your baby or toddler when near water.

2. Learn Infant and Child CPR

It’s not always easy to think about worst-case scenarios—but having the knowledge to act in an emergency can be life-saving. That’s why Moms on Call offers the Infant and Child CPR, Choking, and First Aid Online Course. This easy-to-follow guide gives parents the confidence and skills to respond effectively when every second counts.

Note: This course is not a certification, but a practical, instructional guide tailored for parents and caregivers.

3. Keep Your Baby Safe in the Sun

Sunscreen and shade are must-haves when outdoors: *Babies under the age of 6 months should not use sunscreen.

  • Apply baby-safe sunscreen before and after swimming, following product instructions.

  • Keep babies under 6 months in the shade as much as possible.

  • Use umbrellas or beach tents at public spaces.

  • Bring a wide-brimmed sun hat for your little one to wear both in and out of the water.

4. Start Water Safety Training at 6 Months

We recommend water safety training for babies 6 months and older. It’s a great way to build confidence around water early. And don’t forget:

  • Always drain inflatable or plastic pools after each use.

  • Remove standing water in splash toys or tubs to avoid accidents.

5. Secure Your Home Pool

Pool fences and alarms are a must for homes with pools. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Lock and alarm all doors and windows that lead to the pool area.

  • Install a 4-sided fence with a self-locking gate.

  • Ensure the fence sits 3–5 feet from the edge of the pool for added safety.
