Sun and Water Safety

Warmer weather is here and it’s only getting hotter! As we look for ways to cool down in our backyards, neighborhood pools or a trip to the beach, sun and water safety are a must.

Warmer weather is here and it’s only getting hotter! As we look for ways to cool down in our backyards, neighborhood pools or a trip to the beach, sun and water safety are a must.

Let’s jump right in to Moms on Call’s top water and sun safety tips for keeping cool this summer, safely.

Effective supervision

Adult supervision is the most critical line of defense. No level of aquatic skill or floating device can replace active supervision.

CPR

  • It is essential parents and family members are prepared.
  • Learn to perform CPR on infants, children and adults. Update these skills regularly.
  • Moms on Call has teamed up with Health Solutions of America to offer 50% off of any of their online CPR certification courses which cover adults, children and infants!  Use this link and code “mommylove” through July 7, 2020.

Shade and sunscreen

  • Apply sunscreen according to package directions and use well-known products suitable for children.
  • Be sure to apply before and after baby takes a dip!
  • Try and keep baby shaded, especially babies under 6 months of age.
    • At public spots, look for or bring along an umbrella or beach tent.
    • Bring along a sun hat for baby to keep on while they are both in and out of the water.

Water safety training

  • MOC recommends babies 6 months of age and older have water safety training.
  • Always drain inflatable/plastic pools or splash toys after use.
  • Home pool fences and alarms
    • All doors and windows leading to the pool should be locked and alarmed.
    • Install a permanent 4-sided fence with self-locking gates. The pool fence should be at least 3-5 feet from the pool edge.

So, whether you are wading in an inflatable pool or floating around with your little one, we hope these sun and water safety tips give you peace of mind and make fun in the sun as enjoyable as it can be!
