There’s something about summer that pulls us outside. Longer days. Warmer evenings. Dinner on the patio. One more walk around the neighborhood. And we love all of it. So let’s start here: It’s okay if things shift a little. We’re not aiming for perfection, we’re holding onto what matters most.

Summer Sleep Reset. Keep the Routine, Not the Rigidity

Summer schedules might look different than your normal day. Dinner may be later. You might stay outside a little longer. Bedtime may shift. That’s okay. What matters most is that the bedtime routine stays the same, even if it happens a little later.

Bath time can be quicker, or even skipped some nights, but the heart of the routine stays intact.

Snuggles.
Storytime.
Feeding (for little ones).
Into bed.

This is what signals sleep.

Start the Day on Time

Here’s the anchor for everything: Start your day on time the next morning. Even if bedtime was a little later the night before, we don’t sleep in to compensate. Starting the day at the same time keeps your baby’s internal rhythm steady and prevents things from continuing to drift later and later. This is what keeps everything on track.

Let the Outdoors Work for You

Fresh air and natural light during the day can actually support better sleep. Long walks, time outside, playing in the yard, these all help regulate your baby’s internal clock. So enjoy it. Stay out a little longer. Make the memories.

Protect the Sleep Space

As the days get brighter, make sure the sleep environment still feels like nighttime.

A dark room.
Consistent sound.
Familiar sleep cues.

Even if the sun is still up, the room should say, it’s time to rest.

A Little Reminder

Summer is meant to be enjoyed. You don’t have to choose between good sleep and family time, you can have both. Hold onto your routine where it counts, stay flexible where it doesn’t, and trust that your baby will adjust right along with you. They will. And you’re doing a great job.
